Twitter Will Appoint a Representative to Turkey | Adana Sahne Media

Twitter could no longer resist the regulation decision that requires foreign-based social network providers with more than 1 million daily access to appoint representatives in Turkey. It was stated that Twitter, which received an advertising penalty for opposing this decision in recent months, has committed to appoint representatives in accordance with the regulation.
Following this decision, all social network providers, except Pinterest, announced that they would have representatives in Turkey.

TWitter to Avoid Band Tightening Penalty by Appointing Representative

In accordance with the additional article 4 of Law No. 5651, which entered into force on October 1, 2020, companies that did not accept to open a representative office in Turkey were fined 10 million lira in the first step and 30 million lira in the second step, totaling 40 million lira.

Following this fine, social media giants such as TikTok, YouTube and Facebook decided to appoint representatives, while Twitter, Periscope and Pinterest, which did not appoint representatives, were hit with an advertising ban in January 2021.

With the decision to appoint a representative, Twitter has been spared the bandwidth throttling penalty that was announced to be implemented shortly. Pinterest, which did not appoint a representative, will be subject to a bandwidth throttling penalty that slows down access from Turkey.
