Technology giant Google and popular social media application Facebook are conducting a joint study. A submarine cable system will be installed to establish a 5G connection as part of the study, which aims to increase internet speed in the South Asia Pacific region. The details of the news prepared by Sahne Medya editors, your solution partner in the digital world, are as follows…
The project, codenamed Apricot, is planned to connect high-population Far Eastern countries such as Singapore, Guam, the Philippines, Taiwan and Japan and is expected to be active in 2024.
Apricot will provide support for Echo, another cable system announced by Google in early 2021, and the infrastructure of digital services such as Google Cloud in the region.
Google Global Networking Vice President Bikash Koley said in a blog post that they hope Echo and Apricot will provide companies operating in Asia with more bandwidth, a stronger and more resilient connection, and lower latency.
Social Media giant Facebook’s Network Investments Manager Nico Roehrich also stated that this new submarine cable network will improve the global network infrastructure and enable them to provide better service to approximately three and a half billion users who use Facebook every month.
